Excellence has being serving the catering and hospitality industry in Ireland for over 40 years. The company prides itself on bringing together and distributing a wide array of brands from all over the world and is a one stop shop that supplies products to the Irish food service industry.  

Excellence operates from two state-of-the-art storage complexes in Baldoyle Industrial Estate, with over 21,000 square feet of storage space, which includes 1,800 pallet rack spaces. Dedicated order selection and assembly teams guarantee prompt and professional service. Computerised stock control systems provide accurate and real-time information. Excellence delivers to all locations nationally on a daily basis.

The Problem

As a result of rapid growth, Excellence encountered a number of IT problems that needed to be resolved. The first problem was that the server infrastructure no longer had the capacity to handle the growth of transactions within the business. Secondly, again due to growth, the business had run out of physical space and needed to expand their office and warehousing facilities.

Thirdly, to serve customers better and in real time, remote staff needed instant connectivity to the corporate IT business systems.  Finally, meeting customer shipping deadlines on an hourly basis is mission critical; as a result, any downtime of IT systems would have a major business impact.

Newtec Services’ Solution

To help Excellence continue on their rapid growth path, we set out by incorporating superior performance and resiliency into their IT systems. A new server infrastructure was implemented to handle the increased data transactions. We then installed DataSAFE, which combines onsite and offsite backup and provides a disaster recovery solution for the business. This ensures business continuity for Excellence in the event of a worst case onsite disaster such as a fire or flood. These investments were paramount, as delivering ongoing improvements in customer service is a key priority for management.

To improve customer and internal communication we rolled out G-Suite and this has had a big impact, especially in improved connectivity for remote staff as they communicate internally and with their customers.

Finally, as the business needed to expand to nearby facilities, our goal was to keep everybody operating on the one corporate network. We implemented a high-speed fixed wireless LAN bridge to maintain fast and secure corporate network connectivity between both facilities.
